When the six man team of Dick Long, Allen Steck, Jim Wilson, John Evans, Franklin Coale Sr. and Paul Bacon completed the first ascent of the 'Hummingbird Traverse' in 1965, they must have realised that they had done something extraordinary. The team had tackled the route in expedition style, taking over thirty days to complete the climb and having literally dug their way through the most challenging section of the cornice-encrusted ridge line. However, they probably could not have imagined that fifty years later their audacious route on North America's second highest peak, (Mount Logan), would still be awaiting a second ascent. In this video we join Mark and Janelle Smiley as they partner up with Jed Porter and Reiner Thoni with a plan to succeed where so many others had failed and claim the second ascent of this notorious classic.
